1. Within Winrar, run "test archive" to check your files.
2. If you have a problem file, run winrar "repair". Then test again.
3. Re-Download the file again usually fixes the corrupt file.

1# When I start iw4mp.exe my game crashes
There are a few reasons this may occur:
* Low memory: Wait until Windows re-allocates resources to the Modern Warfare 2 executable. This may take up to 1 minute, after which your game should run as it should. Try freeing up some memory by closing programs you're not using at the moment like browsers or music players.
* Wrong files: If your game is in a different language than English, you may have put the files in the wrong directory. Try moving them from /zone/english to /zone/yourlanguage.
* Requirements are not met: Please download all necessary files from the website, including .NET Framework 3.5 and VC Redistributable, and also the latest DirectX.

If none of the above works, try running Steam while playing. If that doesn't work either, post your question in the Tech Support forum, but please search the forum first.

2# When I join a game, I get a "patch_mp.ff is different from the server" or a similar error. How do I fix this?
Since this is a Peer-to-peer (p2p) game, which means every player is a host. If either you or the selected host did not extract his files properly, for instance if he placed the "From-New" files on an old installation, you will get this error. The only way to fix it is for everyone to use the exact same files.

3# What the hell is NAT, why is it STRICT and what do i do?
NAT basically allows you to host games. That's all you need to know.
To Open your NAT; you must forward these ports;
1500 - UDP
3005 - UDP
3101 - UDP
13000 - TCP
I know how to open my ports, but i had to go through a conquest to get the basics of understand what happens so if your really desperate to do it, Google "how to open ports" as i can't teach you without writing a 30 page report (tempting but no) as there is different methods for different service providers, or routers and all that kind of stuff.

4# I can't edit my name with the alterIWnet_configure file. What should i do?
Open THIS file (If you can't open that file, then your pretty much screwed);
"AlterIWnet" configuration file.

5# When i click "Join Game" the game searches for games but nothing ever comes up and i never join anyone?

First of all, what you should do is pick the correct game mode. Team Deathmatch, Free For All and Ground War tend to have lots of people in them (You can find out how many players are online by hovering your mouse over the game mode and looking at the bottom right of your screen) while modes like Mosh Pit and Domination tend to have 0-10 players. So the chances of finding a game are better with more players online.

Now secondly, when the game is searching, this can take awhile. My friend had to wait 20 minutes the FIRST time he tried. So its normal to wait for a very long time. What i usually do is i alt+tab out of Modern Warfare 2 and keep the sound on.
(Note: The game doesn't allow you to Alt+Tab out so what i do is i press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and start task manager. That should get me back to my Desktop)

Why do i keep the sound on?
Well when the game is searching, it should be playing that low-key modern warfare 2 music which sounds like some sort of retarted radio. When players join, it makes a loud CHAGUNG sound. And when the match starts, it will go quiet right after. I usually return to Modern Warfare 2 when i hear the CHAGUNG but that doesn't always mean the game is going to start. (Look at the Next FAQ)
6# Why do i keep getting Disconnected or getting some "Host Migration error"?
Getting Disconnected, nobody can help, its the internet's fault. The Host Migration Error, currently has to solution and i don't think its alterIWnet's fault, it might be to do with the match-making system without Steam or it might be because a dragon ate Tokyo. That's how clueless I am.

Nothing went wrong on your side, you just have to try joining a new game.

7# When i double-click iw4mp.exe, i get this error message, "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)"

This means your computer does not meet the system Requirements.

8# My rank keeps restarting back to rank 1! Help!

This could be for many reasons. Maybe you need to reinstall or something has messed up and you need your
rank/stats file.
Just go to:

and copy your players folder then replace it after you are done doing whatever your gonna do.
This also can help if your rank keeps getting erased you might want to look to see if the folder is read only.

Make sure you run iw4mp.exe as an Administrator, especially if it's in your Program Files directory.
(Windows Vista and 7 only)
To run as administrator, right click on iw4mp.exe and click "Run as Administrator"

With the current beta emulator, you can't add friends or create parties. However a friend management system will be implemented in future updates.

First you need to check how big your iw_22.iwd file is. It should be in;

If it's smaller than 145mb, then you have the old version. You need to download the latest patch 1.3.37

This just means the server your trying to join has a different patch from yours. There is nothing you can do but look for another server (or update to the latest version if you haven't which is probably why you got this error).

15# I am unable to retrieve the game playlists! No "downloading playlist files" window is visible, and every game type has 0/0 players.

To solve this, you need to completely reinstall Modern Warfare 2 with the crack given by whoever you downloaded it from and manually place the crack files into the game folder via drag and drop.

This means you downloaded your map pack from ThePirateBay.org. This pack is missing half of the files, you need to re-download the pack from the link provided in my guide.
